Are you scared for your future and that of your children? I am an apocalyptic movie lover. There is a common theme among the characters. One is the desire to return to the way it was. But just like in real life, it never does.
People will always talk about the "good old days." There were never any good old days for everyone. Yesterday is always better once it's gone. Covid amplified and surfaced many of our social ills. Very few want to contribute to solutions. But are happy to fuel the fires of discontent. Sometimes, people have sold their souls to the Hollywood version of chaos.
Ask the people in war-torn countries and countries whose financial stability has been sabotaged. It's not like the movies. There are no stores left with goods to pick through. Or people waking up looking fresh and clean. And a clean, fresh water supply that always seems available.
However, there is one part that remains true. You adapt, or you don't survive. The so-called great depression came at a time when people were tougher and more resilient. And the oppressed were the strongest because it was business as usual. Poor people did not jump from buildings and take their lives in other ways, either.
When Covid lockdowns mandated formal alienation, a lot of people lost their minds. A mental health crisis of epic proportions quickly dwarfed the fatalities of the appearance of COVID-19. And whatever you think or feel, we never return to the old "normal." And like trying to rekindle an old flame that didn't work before, neither will our past.
That is the point of the past being in the past; it didn't work.
I remember the book and following concepts of "Who moved the cheese?" Are you ready to find new cheese if yours gets moved? Or will you starve to death waiting for the cheese to come back? Or, point the finger at everyone else because you failed to prepare for the absence of the cheese.
Some will need to remember how they misused their cheese. Or felt like the world owed them cheese because of who they thought they were. The only constant thing is change.
Whether you are sitting terrified and bewildered, glued to a screen as the media confuses you into a frenzy. Or if you are calmly sitting by because your faith is a rock. We can all see a change coming.
The change is in our hands. Do we hold on to the old ways and continue to embrace greed, violence, hatred, and destruction? As we seek false comfort in the fact that the new iPhone has a better camera? Or escape to the fantasy of the internet and live a virtual life.
Why not escape and contribute to the multi-billion dollar porn industry that steals millions of our children and citizens that become lost in the abyss of drugs and sex trafficking.
As long as it's not you or your child, it's okay, right? Sorry, Charlie, it's not!
But all is not lost. Someone let it become like this, and someone can change it. And as hard as it may be to accept, we let it become like this.
Oh, I hear you saying, "I didn't participate." "It wasn't me." But my question is, what did you do to stand up against it? Evil flourishes if no one takes action. Freedom and justice are only as strong as the people who fuel it. Dictators and Fascism wins as people stand back and wait for it to go away by itself.
During the most challenging times, there are predators, prey, and deniers.
There will always be three groups of people that make it happen, watch it happen, and wonder what happened. Action takers will always rule. The non-action takers are the buffet.
Action in a violent way will always breed violence. The bullies of today will be the victims of tomorrow.
What will we choose for our tomorrow? Will we continue down the road that has led us to the brink of World War III? Will we continue to sell our souls for the thirteen pieces of silver? Or will we play our "cithara/Lyre as Rome burns?
It's time to embrace a positive change! Empathy is a great place to start. If you are religious, reread your books. God created everything and everyone. No one is lesser or greater. No one has the divine right to destroy the planet or take whatever they want because they can.
If you believe that a Divine Power gave you these rights, how come you had to steal, murder, and rob to get what you have? And why do you have to lie to keep it?
There is a change coming, but it is up to everyone to participate in the positive change. You may feel like you are powerless. You may have no accountability. "No raindrop takes responsibility for the flood."
Take responsibility for your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Grow your food even if you start with four flower pots on a window sill. Stop letting people tell you how to think, especially when it only suits their agenda. Take some time from the screens to exercise and build an authentic, fulfilling relationship with your loved ones. Take charge of how you think and feel.
Love yourself and be at peace with yourself so you can love and be at peace with others. Make a plan for a better future. Embrace new skill sets to get there. And do something towards it every day, however small the action is.
Unhappy people have no plan in mind. And they don't want to see anyone else with happiness.
Let's all make a positive difference together.
It's time to shine.
Let's be great together.
