I'm too old. I would if I had more time. I would if I had more money.
Do any of these things sound familiar?
It's time to take action, whether these are legitimate concerns or negative self-talk.
We all have something we would like to improve on. It could be getting better sleep, losing a few pounds, or starting that new business. Are you waiting for the perfect moment? Or do you lack the courage to take the first step? Don't overthink it. Just do it.
You will be surprised that the first step is the hardest before you take it. Later, as you look back, you will find it was the easiest. We all have an inner voice, and it's called our inner talk.
But a secret invader will also slip in with the inner talk. This pest is called our negative self-talk or our inner critic.
We need the critic in our life as friends, but if it is the first on the scene, it becomes the enemy.
We must first call up the dreamer to have an unrestricted view of our intentions. Sometimes, the dreamer may be unreasonable or whimsical. It is at this time that we call in the critic. The critic will criticize our dreams, finding every possible negative aspect.
But we don't stop there. We then call up Mr. or Mrs. Logic. We will never follow our dreams or desires if we don't call up the logic.
For instance, if the critic says you can't do that because you lack the money, forget about it. Or, you have never done that before, so you will fail, so forget about it.
Our logic might say, "you don't have the money yet." Which means we must find a way to obtain the money. We also call up our creativity. We may borrow the money or save it over some time.
Our logic will say, "just because I have never done this before doesn't mean I can't." and "I have been successful in a lot of things I had not done before." And all I need to do is gain the additional skill sets.
A growth mindset understands that we can gain new skills when encountering new challenges. The growth mindset focuses on something other than the problem; it focuses on the solution.
If we live, we get older. The senior years can be a beautiful experience.
But these years can be miserable if we look back at dreams and desires we never attempted.
We must embrace the willingness to fail. But as Zig Ziglar would say, "Failure is an event, not a person." One of my sayings is, "You can't fail if you never quit."
No one knows the future. But if we repeat the actions and decisions of the past, the future can repeat itself.
Unless it's something that defies the realms of possibility, anything is possible. Many things that we choose to call impossible are improbable.
As we look back in recent history, many so-called experts insisted on impossibilities only to prove incorrect not too long afterward.
If you feel something positive in your heart and soul that tells you to create a better or more fulfilling life, do it.
There are many unexpected benefits. Your physical, emotional, and mental health can improve. You become motivated and energized.
Studies also indicate that prosocial behavior has fantastic effects on our entire health.
Too many mental health issues like depression, sadness, anger, frustration, and burnout come from doing things that do not align with who we are. The lack of internal unity or cognitive dissonance can be an unbearable burden.
Life is too short to sit on the sidelines. Or be directed by outside influences not to be who you were born to be. Our inner critic is nature's way of helping us to avoid pain and discomfort.
Additionally, the human condition makes us move from pain to less pain. Not from pain to pleasure; this is why doing things we need to do for our good can be challenging.
It's natural and acceptable to fear new things. But fear is not a reason to run from those situations.
Allow the dreamer to dream, the critic to criticize, and the logic to reason.
In this order, you will remain on your path, motivated and successful.
See you on the mountaintop!
Let's be great together.
