One more step can be the difference between you and your end game. Napoleon Hill's "Three Feet from Gold" story is a perfect example.
It's the story of Two men, Darby and an Uncle, who are three feet away from being wealthy. They had invested in machinery to mine gold.
They hit a valuable vein of gold. Then, soon afterward, the vien suddenly ended.
They ended up quitting. They sold the equipment at a loss. But the person who brought the equipment had a geologist to investigate the mine.
Because of a shift in the earth between two plates, the vein had broken, and the continuation was three feet away from the first part of the gold vein.
The second guy made a fortune with very little investment.
Do you ever wonder if you will make it through? Or can you do what needs to be done? Does a present relationship seem over? We may quit when we shouldn't have if we need to remember the point.
I don't believe we should tolerate every situation; sometimes, the best alternative is redirecting ourselves.
But make sure you have exhausted every means of investigation for success.
Sometimes, reaching your goal takes years of adjustment, failure, building, and grit. There will be great days and not-so-great days. You never know what will happen.
But you know that you will automatically fail if you don't try. If you think about a past failure, you will suffer. However, if you imagine a future failure, you will lose your motivation.
Everything is "One more step." and "One Step at a Time," from losing a loved one to building a family, career, business, or life. It is easy to feel beaten when you think of everything you must do simultaneously.
If we feel overwhelmed before we start, we won't start.
Most of us drive a car. We open the door and position ourselves to drive. Start the vehicle and drive off. We have yet to learn how our cars function. We focus on the basics of fuel, moving, and stopping.
However, thousands of people die each year from texting and driving. A few moments of distraction can be deadly. The rest of our lives are no different. Everything we do in our lives needs intention and purpose.
There will always be people, places, and things to distract us. Success comes from a great plan supported by an excellent strategy held together by commitment.
Specificity gives clarity, and clarity supports continuity. Implementation intention is a great place to start.
Implementation intention refers to a specific plan or strategy that outlines precisely when, where, and how a person will take action to achieve a particular goal. This technique effectively increases the likelihood of goal attainment by helping individuals set clear and specific intentions for their behavior, which can reduce barriers and distractions that might otherwise prevent them from reaching their goals. By creating a detailed action plan, individuals can increase their motivation, focus, and self-control to carry out their intentions successfully.
When we stay focused on the end result, we are no longer limited by outside influences. We become solution-orientated, not problem-orientated.
Implementation intention is vital for success because it involves creating a concrete plan for achieving a specific goal. By clearly outlining the steps that need to be taken and when they will be implemented, individuals are more likely to follow through with their intentions and achieve their desired outcomes. Implementation intention helps to bridge the gap between intention and action, increasing the likelihood of success.
Systems are the repeatable paths to success or failure. Implementation intention creates a system. We can maintain efficiency, clarity, and success with a realized system. And updating our system becomes more straightforward.
Overall, implementation intention is a powerful tool to help individuals realize their goals.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well. We must see it through to completion when we take on a responsibility. As people, we develop invaluable skill sets to serve us for the rest of our lives.
I started using an exercise where I would want to quit and call the person who quit "Maurice." I would then continue as me. Every time I looked back, I was glad I didn't quit.
We all have the X variable in our lives. The X factor is the unknown. Then there is what I call the magic. These are unbelievably unexpected miracles. And the last part is our participation.
When we stay aware of the first two, there is no room for hopelessness, despair, and frustration. The third element means we must keep on keeping on. Find a way. If that doesn't work, find another and another until you find a way that works.
Personal growth will be exponential, and your confidence will be authentic and founded on experience and know-how.
You are the most valuable asset you will ever have. The more tools you embrace and master, the more options and victories you will experience.
So the next time things get more demanding, you get tougher. Never quit. Never give in because you could be three feet from gold.
See you on the mountaintop!
Let's be great together.
