Is It True?
Is it true it will be the most critical question framing for you as you break from the starting line?
You have all the essential tools to start your journey from the starting line to pass beyond the finish line. Just because you have all the gear and supplies for the vacation doesn't mean you are on vacation.
The same antagonists we have fostered in our minds are still waiting for an opportunity to sabotage our efforts. Think of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty as associates that support your worst habits. But they benefit from your support. I remember a couple of friends I used to party with. I made the most money, and we usually went in my car.
So that meant the last part of the partying evening that came out of my pocket; the final drinks, gasoline/petrol, were my responsibility. And here's the worst thing. What if law enforcement pulled us over?
I remember when I told them my partying days were over. You would think I had asked them to donate a kidney to me.
For weeks, I must have heard all types of complaining, shaming, questioning, confirmation, and disconfirmation. However, the truth was they were losing something of value to them, not me.
So, I will refer to fear, anxiety, and uncertainty as unwelcome friends.
When you cross the starting line, your "unwelcome friends" will be ready to trip you up. Because once you cross over a few finish lines, they know you will eliminate them from your existence.
Everyone and everything knows their power is gone once you ignore them. And let me tell you, these things will not give in easily. Parasites need a host.
But never fear; enter the hero of the day. The hero's name is "Is It True?"
When fear says, "You cannot do this." Or uncertainty says, "I don't believe this can be done; we never did this before." And anxiety says, "Oh crap, what are you doing?" "Oh my goodness, we are going to fail."
Activate the hero. And ask yourself, is it true? Okay, the first part won't shake them off. But there are two more segments. Can the negativity be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt?
And if you accept the input of your unwelcome friends, move to How Has That Worked Out For You?
I remember letting my friends talk me into a night of partying several months after my exit from the party scene.
I wasn't feeling great on the way home. And the following day, I felt my body and head were my worst enemy. And somehow, I must have eaten roadkill that previous night.
Suppose you do not keep asking yourself if it is true. You will become a victim of lies and deception. And lies and deceit will constantly lead you in the wrong direction. You could find yourself in a terrible situation that you will regret for the rest of your life.
Accepting words or situations as facts or your only choices is equally as bad. We must always find the verifiable truths in all of our thoughts. Because unchecked erroneous beliefs produce horrible actions, your life will stay in the ditch.
Of course, if you have not trained yourself to do this automatically, you may not realize what you have done. But if you take a moment to be still in your mind, your body will tell you.
I used to feel my stomach turn, my heart beat faster or harder, or tightness in my neck and shoulders. Unfortunately, if we keep accepting these symptoms, they will become a part of us. The hormonal addiction will kick in, and you won't feel right unless you are doing wrong.
I mention in my book From Chaos to Calm, making your life your own, it is much easier to stay out of quicksand than getting out of quicksand.
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
If we get caught up in the never-ending cycles of self-sabotage and recurring failure, we will believe this is our destiny. Or something is wrong with us, or the world is holding us back. Many of us see it as a divine curse.
These notions spell instant defeat because we have removed the only influential factor from the equation. That factor is us. What would you feel like if you were packed for a long-awaited family vacation, only to turn around after you left the driveway of your home?
Additionally, think of the many effects and feelings towards you from your family members or friends in the car. Or maybe Grandparents that were patiently waiting at the other end. How would you feel?
You may not realize it, but this physiologically happens every time you give into fear, anxiety, and uncertainty.
Eventually, life will feel like trying to ice skate with an elephant on your back. I did this for most of my life. And it never worked out for me.
If you consistently practice using "the Hero," is it true, and his two trusty side-kicks, can it be credibly validated beyond a shadow of a doubt? And How has This Worked Out For Me and My Feelings?
You will be amazed to find "the Hero" will be there as second nature.
As you will realize, everything gained or lost, success or failure, starts and ends with mindset.
We can deprogram a self-destructive or self-inhibiting mindset with a successful reboot. I have made a massive difference in my life and many others.
Together, we can do the same for you. But the ball is in your court where it has been and always will be.
